Human Impact Project
Facilitated by Mrs. Wilkerson & Mrs. Meyer
Students researched and created either an awareness campaign or designed a solution for an environmental issue of their choice. Students created a tri-fold board informing the audience about the issue as well as the target audience before displaying their awareness campaign or solution.

Evolutionary Story of a Living Thing
Facilitated by Mrs. Wilkerson & Mrs. Meyer
Students researched and presented information describing the evolution of their animal of choice. Students provided evidence for at least 3 ancestors of the animal and how it is related to the current day animal. Students presented their findings in front of the class in a formal presentation.

Chemistry
Meet the Elements
Facilitated by Mrs. Meyer
As students learned about the structure of atoms and the basics of the periodic table, they chose an atom to research and become experts on. They learned about the discovery, basic properties, and everyday uses of their element, as well as created models of their element and a fictional story about what would happen if it disappeared. At the end of the project, all students put their elements together to form a large periodic table in the hallway at LEAD.

Car Emissions
Facilitated by Mrs. Meyer
Students used stoichiometry to analyze the annual carbon dioxide emissions of three cars of their choosing. They started with a prediction and used information about fuel economy, mole to mole and gram to gram conversions to identify which car would have the highest emissions per year. They also learned about other factors that influence their carbon footprint and what steps they could take to offset the impact of their preferred car.

Chemical Reactions Tri-fold Brochure
Facilitated by Mrs. Meyer
Throughout this project, students learned all about chemical reactions, including how and why they occur, as well as typical patterns. At the end of the project, they observed five different reactions. They wrote the word and balanced formula equation and classified the type of reaction based on the pattern observed, creating a brochure to highlight their work.

Accelerated Chemistry
Meet the Elements
Facilitated by Mrs. Attig
Students selected an element to research and identified its significance in everyday life. They learned about the atomic structure of their element and why it occupies a specific location on the periodic table. Students then created a model of their element, and wrote a short fictional story about what would happen if their element disappeared. They placed the elements on the wall in the hallway creating a huge periodic table for LEAD.

Types of Chemical Reactions
Tri-Fold Brochure
Facilitated by Mrs. Attig
Students learned about the 5 types of chemical reactions and then designed a tri-fold brochure explaining and modeling the reactions. They observed demos of each type of reaction and used their skills to predict and write balanced equations.

Get A Clue
Facilitated by Mrs. Attig
Students drew 2 clues for compounds. They identified the compounds and wrote their names and formulas. They analyzed typical consumer products (foods, cosmetics, cleaning, etc.) to find a product, containing each one. They classified each compound as either ionic or covalent, and evaluated information regarding its use and risk. If the product was found to be a health risk, they recommended a safer alternative.
Satellite Project
Facilitated by Mr. Gleue
In this project, students researched a satellite. They were to investigate the purpose and the instrumentation on board the satellite and also determine some basic orbital calculations. They were to create a digital or physical model of the satellite. Finally, they put the presentation into a video format.

Graphing in Physics
Students were broken into groups and each group had to perform a different physics experiment, take data, create a graph, and explain different features of the experiment and graph. For their final product, they created a google slideshow and gave an oral presentation over it.

Serial Killer Project
Facilitated by Mrs. Attig
Students researched the historical attributes of a specific serial killer, created a PowerPoint presentation, and then presented their report to the class.
Who's Your Teacher?
Facilitated by Mrs. Attig
Students fumed a latent fingerprint of a teacher. Then they compared the print to a group of teacher’s ten-cards and identified which teacher they had. They identified the ridge pattern and 5 ridge characteristics. They also learned how to calculate the teacher’s Henry number which is a classification method.

Poisoning Case
Facilitated by Mrs. Attig
Each student researched a different poison and an interesting case involving that poison. They prepared a slide show to present to the class.
Anatomy & Physiology
Gummy Dissection Lab
Facilitated by Mrs. Bell
In order to work through the Language of Anatomy and the different planes of the body, students dissected Cinnamon bears and Sour Patch Kids.

How to Engineer a Body Part
Facilitated by Mrs. Bell
In this project students researched the structure and functions of organs in the body. Students then had to design an “organ” that would carry out the same functions as the organ in the body.

Emergency! Project
Facilitated by Mrs. Bell
Students work in groups of 4 to solve a medical mystery. Each group is given a patient who has been involved in an accident, the team must diagnose, treat and share follow-up instructions with the patient and family. Groups will then share findings in a “Grand Rounds” presentation. This project coincides with the Skeletal Unit.

Cupcake Protein Synthesis
Facilitated by Mrs. Bell
As a final activity for our Protein Synthesis Unit, students were given a strand of DNA. Students then had to transcribe, translate, and assemble their “protein”.

Biochemistry of Life
Students learned about the major biomolecules and then had to prepare a meal, where they identified all the biomolecules of the meal, and documented the experience from picking the recipe to preparing the meal.
